Mia Charnelle is a photographer, wardrobe stylist and creative director using photography as a means to examine gender, blackness, sexuality and disability. They have been a photographer for 5 years. Before photography, they ran a streetwear brand called Triibe Movement.

Their favourite media to consume and create is photography. They consider themselves a visual communicator. For anything they cannot find words for, they are able to convey through storytelling and photos.

Photography Industry Role Models

There are so many people Mia looks up to but if they had to choose just one they’d say Adrienne Raquel. Mia feels the way Adrienne captures light and colour is nothing short of amazing! She inspired them to start shooting portraits. She believes Adrienne’s eye for composition is immaculate!

Start where you are, with what you have.

How They Handle Setbacks

In the past, they have tried to learn from setbacks. They take an amount of time to grieve the loss and then analyze how they can do better when the opportunity presents itself.

What They Are Working On Now

They are working on a photo series called "Ain't That A Blip' (working title). This photo series takes up a politic of adornment to examine how Black disabled people beautify their disability aids in order to capture Black disabled people who are often rendered illegible.
