About:
Usually when the media features folks that identify under the trans umbrella, they focus only on the hardship of being “other”, especially regarding Black and Brown people. The Queer 26’s new short film “Passion of X”, shifts that narrative.
Passion of X is a visual poetry anthology highlighting the joy, freedom and expanded understanding of being a trans, nonbinary, or genderqueer person of color. It is made up of five parts, each featuring an original poem created by trans, genderqueer, and/or nonbinary writers. Each part delivers the message through a different medium: animation, photography, narrative film, dance, and performance.
More importantly, Passion of X represented an opportunity for Queer writers and creators of color throughout Los Angeles and beyond to speak honestly on their full lived experiences. It is an opportunity to share, to be seen, and for viewers to see themselves represented on screen. In this current atmosphere of anti-trans legislation, vitriol, and violence, it is particularly important to highlight joy alongside the impacts of this onslaught. Passion of X provides a moment of relief and reflection for our community. It also promises that peace and joy is not only on the horizon, but can be found in the here and now, despite all things.
